Fifteen Organizations Awarded Racial Equity Response Grants from the Fry Foundation
In response to the current moment—when Chicago is once again struggling with the historical legacy of systemic racism—the Fry Foundation made targeted investments in Black led organizations that uplift Blace voices and create the conditions for Black people and communities to flourish. Learn about how the Fry Foundation awarded grants to 15 organizations who responded to the murder of George Floyd. Our Response to the Pandemic and Racial Inequity: We converted Health grants to General operating support and increased flexibility to all other grantees
After the Stay‐At Home order was put in place by Governor Pritzker in response to the pandemic, the Foundation streamlined the grant reporting and grant renewal process for all health grantees, and health grants were converted to general operating support in order to allow grantees to allocate the funds to where they are needed most in their clinics. more >

Chicago Foundations support the initiative ‘Envisioning Justice,’ facilitated by Illinois Humanities
The Fry Foundation supported the arts education initiative Envisioning Justice through the Illinois Humanities. As part of the arts programming, nine groups received funding in 2018 for their work inside the carceral system. Two Fry Foundation grantees, Young Chicago Authors and Red Clay Dance, were among the recipients. The initiative engages Chicagoans of all neighborhoods, races, socio-economic backgrounds in a citywide conversation about the impact of incarceration in local communities. more >

Leaders of two Fry Foundation grantees are recipients of the New Leaders for Chicago Award and the Lab Artist Award:
Carlos Tortolero, the founder and president of the National Museum of Mexican Art, and Vershawn Sanders-Ward, founder of Red Clay Dance, were honored for their work in the arts. Carlos Tortolero has been named a recipient of the inaugural New Leaders for Chicago Award from the Field Foundation and MacArthur Foundation to expand the definition of leadership in Chicago. Vershawn Sanders-Ward has been named a recipient of Lab Artist Award by the Chicago Dancemakers Forum, an award granted to mid-career artists to research, explore and develop a new work of art. more >
