AAPIP honors Unmi Song with the Local Champion Award

May 14, 2025

Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) is proudly recognizing Unmi Song, President of the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation, as the recipient of the Local Champion Award. This honor celebrates Unmi’s remarkable contributions to both local and national philanthropic landscapes.

For decades, Unmi has been a steadfast advocate for equity, inclusion, and community empowerment. Her leadership has had a profound impact on the philanthropic sector, and her unwavering support of Chicago’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) philanthropic community has played a pivotal role in the development and growth of AAPIP’s Chicago Chapter. Unmi has been a guiding light and role model to so many rising AANHPI leaders. “We are honored to celebrate her legacy and continued influence as we mark this important milestone in our organization’s history.”

Unmi will be presented with the Local Champion Award during the Community Celebration and Awards Reception on May 20, as part of AAPIP’s 35th Anniversary Conference, taking place May 19–21 in Chicago. The conference will bring together AANHPI professionals, funders, and advocates from across the country for a powerful gathering centered on deep learning, meaningful action, and community building.
